WEB's Purpose

WEB is dedicated to offering individuals in all areas and levels of the employee benefits profession a continuous learning environment among multi-disciplinary professionals so that they may develop a greater scope and depth of understanding of the challenges and changes facing EB professionals today and become highly respected and influential industry leaders of tomorrow. At local chapters, WEB members also have professional relationship building opportunities through networking events, roundtable discussions, and mentoring.

WEB Past and Present

The Worldwide Employee Benefits Network (WEB) began in Washington, D.C. as an informal group of lawyers, benefit consultants, government officials, and other employee benefits professionals who gathered monthly to share their professional interpretations, opinions and administrative concerns relating to the massive legislative and regulatory requirements of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA).

The multi-disciplinary educational model proved to be instrumental in creating uniformity of interpretation and application of ERISA, as well as identifying deficiencies in existing legal authority and directing the implementation of future guidance in the retirement and health and welfare arenas.

Over the years, WEB has grown into a national organization with local chapters, and continues to promote the multi-disciplinary educational model established by its founders. Specifically, WEB provides educational programming, often in the form of panel presentations, featuring different types of employee benefits professionals, from in-house benefits and human resource professionals, to governmental specialists, to attorneys, actuaries, CPAs and insurance brokers. WEB programs offer continuing education credits for many types of professionals. WEB events also encourage professional relationship building that naturally comes from this type of collaborative culture.

Today, WEB is committed to helping define the role of the benefits professional in the 21st century. As changing legislation, technology and market forces reshape the profession, products and delivery systems, WEB will continue to foster and support the professional development of its members to meet the challenges ahead.
